Northwire, Inc. a leading designer and manufacturer of customized technical cables, coil cords, and complete interconnectivity solutions has added two new Appliance Wire Material or AWM styles specific to Architectural Lighting applications.

These additions are intended to satisfy customer’s needs for decorative, architectural lighting cable and wire that will meet requirements for fit, form, and function! Whether the goal is to display interesting aesthetics or achieve superior quality and reliability, Northwire has you covered with two new AWM approvals for both 300 and 600 volt constructions that meet a temperature rating of 105°C.

These custom architectural lighting cables can feature 2 or more conductors with no gauge size limitations. Additional customizations include a round or flat (parallel) non integral design. Featuring a clear, see-through PVC jacket, custom colors can be added for a trendy translucent look or a high gloss opaque color.

Underwriter’s Laboratory (UL) offers a broad certification program for appliance wiring material (AWM) which enables OEMs to source safe and compliant products. The types of tests performed to obtain a new approval or listing are dependent on the construction and intended use of the product. OEMs benefit from partnering with manufacturers that build to AWM styles because they can have peace of mind knowing that the cable component will be built to meet the requirements of their end application with quality and safety top of mind!

The intended use for these AWM styles are an external interconnection specifically for lighting applications where the required flame rating is FT2. The final acceptance of the combination has been determined by UL. These two style numbers apply to the final, jacketed cable and can be combined with any pre-approved inner or conductor styles that meet the same voltage and temperature ratings.
