October 1st, 2018 - The first Friday of October marks National Manufacturing Day, which is the celebration of modern manufacturing to inspire the next generation of manufacturers. Facing a labor shortage in the industry, the goal of the day is to increase awareness of what modern manufacturing is, and almost more importantly, what it isn’t!
Northwire, a company focused on the design and manufacturing of technical cable and assembly solutions makes a conscious effort throughout the year in a variety of programs to raise the public image of manufacturing. These programs include the CAP program in alignment with local high schools to host student interns that are interested in different topics including engineering, production planning, purchasing, and sales to name a few.
In addition to high school interns, Northwire works with local colleges and tech schools to bring in summer interns that are looking to gain some hands-on experience. These internships have been very beneficial for both parties as it gives Northwire a chance to introduce up and coming talent to cable manufacturing and gives the students a chance to see if they would like to continue pursuing a career in this dynamic industry!
Bring your child to work day is another great way to introduce the many career paths in manufacturing to the next generation. Northwire typically hosts a day for team member’s children in June for a fun filled day of engineering challenges, team building activities, and a tour of the facility including an intro to all the different roles that are required to keep product running and our customers happy! These are just a few ways that Northwire celebrates Manufacturing throughout the year by promoting the industry and the next generation of manufacturers. This Friday, on National Manufacturing Day, Northwire will celebrate its hard-working team members with a catered lunch.
