Our Global Commitment to REACH
REACH is a European Community Regulation on the safe use of chemicals (EC 1907/2006). It deals with the Registration, Evaluation, Authorization and Restriction of Chemical substances. The law went into effect June 1, 2007 and will be phased in through 2018.
It is an important effort designed to help protect human health and the environment. REACH is particularly aimed at better, earlier identification of intrinsic properties in any chemical known as SVHC (Substance of Very High Concern).
Suppliers of anything containing SVHC above a concentration of 0.1% by weight are required to provide information on the SVHC to promote safe use. A list of current SVHCs is available here.
Northwire’s Position on REACH
Northwire takes REACH seriously. It’s part of our commitment to the environment and to the customers we serve. As a global company, we recognize the importance of REACH and our responsibility to adhere to its principles. We make a concerted effort to comply with European Union guidelines and provide information on any SVHC used in our products.
Taking Action
Northwire is actively cooperating with the European Chemicals Agency and all the national authorities required. Risk management is a key part of our program. We make every effort to obtain all information on substances used. That allows us to assess the risks of use and manage them properly, passing all required information up and down the supply chain. We encourage Northwire's suppliers to preregister and register their products in accordance with regulations.
Our customers can rest assured that with Northwire’s commitment to REACH, we will adhere strictly to any present and future restrictions on particular substances.
If you have any questions about our compliance with REACH, please contact your Northwire representative, or email us at cableinfo@northwire.com, or call us at +1 715.294.2121.
