OSCEOLA, Wis.— March 26, 2007 — Northwire, Inc. has introduced DataCELL MVC-800 Extended-Distance FireWire cable for machine vision, variable frequency drive control and other longer cable run applications in rugged industrial environments.
Previously, FireWire cable had a 4.5-meter (14.76 feet) length restriction due to the early physical restraints put on the construction of computer/office grade cable. New higher-speed 1394b FireWire specifications and the emergence of industrial applications for FireWire require longer cable runs.
DataCELL MVC-800 Extended-Distance cable is engineered within the FireWire performance specification up to 10 meters (32.8 feet) end-to-end length. This longer cable maintains the rugged, industrial-strength attributes of Northwire’s DataCELL MVC-800 FireWire Cable, including superior oil, chemical and UV resistance; cut, abrasion and weld flash resistance; FT-1 flame-rating; and waterproof feature—to make it suitable for outdoor use.
MVC-800 Extended-Distance is UL-recognized and CSA-approved AWM-style cable with two 24AWG data pairs—insulated with foamed polyethylene—and a 22AWG PVC-insulated power pair, 100 percent coverage foil/polyester shielding with two drain wires and an overall tinned copper braid for optimal shielding.
Northwire is a member of the Automated Imaging Association (AIA), Robotic Industries Association (RIA) and the European Machine Vision Association (EMVA). The company offers made-to-order cable design and prototype assistance to members of those organizations.
